Fantasy Football 2012 Draft Results

Seeing as I haven't updated this Blog in 18 months, fantasy football season seems as good a time as any to pick it back up.

Here are the results from my 8 money leagues.  The two where I am co-manager I was not at the draft but sent my rankings and strategy with the main owner.

Here the players I own the most shares of:
Player Ownership out of 8 Leagues Notes:
Peyton Hillis 6 I think that hate had gone too far
Ryan Williams 5 I hate Beanie Wells.  I think this is Williams job within
 a few weeks.
Torrey Smith 5 I see many Home run Plays.
Brandon Marshall 5 The guy always left after the first run of WR.  Reunion
with Jay Cutler will make him a PPR Stud.
Peyton Manning 4 I clearly think he is not going to be effected by the
injury/time off
David Wilson 4 When, not if, Bradshaw gets hurt Wilson will be the G Man.
Philip Rivers 3 He can't be as bad as he was last year right? He was my
QB of choice if I didn't get one of the big 3 or peyton.
Forte 3 This is product of where I was drafting most of the time.
(Plus keeping him in another league)
Sproles 3 I would like to have a few more shares.  Maybe I will be able
 to trade into another.
MJD 3 A product draft position and managers being afraid
 of the hold out.
Julio Jones 3 I like Julio Jones more than I thought.
Antonio Brown 3 Drafted him when he was value 7th round usually.
Randy Moss 3 The ultimate lottery ticket.
Jamaal Charles 2 Thought I liked him more than others, but it turns out
most others are bullish on Jamaal too.
Steven Jackson 2 I think has plenty left in the tank.
Daniel Thomas 2 Reggie Bush can't stay healty again this year, can he?
Demaryius Thomas 2 He is a freakish athleate with Peyton Manning at the helm.
I wonder who Peyton likes better?
Colston 2 Not particularly excited but he seemed to be a value
Lance Moore 2 He will probably not end the year on either of these teams
Eric Decker 2 Would have liked to have a few more shares
Sidney Rice 2 He was availible after the 10th round.  Worth a flier in
 most cases.
Greg Little 2 Sneaky PPR value late.
Antonio Gates 2 I think he returns to form this year.
Aaron Hernandez 2 New contract, Extra attention to Gronk.
Jared Cook 2 Great Value in the late rounds.

Fantasy Baseball Sleepers 2011 edition

Tremendous Upside Potential. ESPN Average Pick in parentheses.

First Base

Firstly, get it... firstly. I do not recommend you wait on first base this year.  I am a firm believer that if you don't get one of the top 7 one baggers you will have a hard time making up the power elsewhere.  However, these are some good targets for your Corner Infield or Utility slot.

Paul Konerko (85.7) I don't expect as many home runs as last season (39) but he is safe and reliable.  Everyone after him is sketchy.

Lance Berkman (208.1) I'm not in love, but I there are worse fliers to take.  There is a good chance to make a profit on the Big Puma, with small puma investment

Second Base

Brian Roberts (149.4) Came back from injury last season and stole 12 bases in 59 games. A nice value the Orioles offense is on the upswing.

Tsuyoshi Nishioka (204.8) Ichiro light, but at 2nd Base... possibly at Short Stop.  Count me excited.

Short Stop

Rafael Furcal (138.4) I really have no rational reason for thinking Furcal will stay healthy.  I just really love the value if he does and hate most of the other options at Short.

J.J. Hardy (213.5) Great post hype sleeper.  Nice 20 Home Run potential this late in the draft at a power light position.

Third Base

Mark Reynolds (154) I think this guy is getting way too much hate.  Espically at a position that is as shallow as Third base is this year.  The batting average is brutal, but he has 40 Homer 20 Swipe potential.  His career BABIP coming into last year was .346 in 2010 his BABIP dropped to .257 .  His luck should turn around nicely.  I would consider taking him in round 9 if I was still in need at Third.

Chris Johnson (260/Undrafted) Tremendous upside potential for the last round.

Catcher

Mike Napoli (177) I liked him better for the few days he was a Blue Jay, but he is one of the many reasons to wait on a backstop this year.

Chris Iannetta (222) Now that Migel Olivo has been banished to Seattle.  Look for Iannetta to capitalize on the extra at bats in the thin mountain air.

Outfield

Chris Coghlan (213.9) Chris is a great way to pad your Batting Average late in the draft from a former Rookie of the Year.

Magglio Ordonez (217) If he can stay heathy he brings a bit of everything but speed to your lineup.  Don't count him out, but I wouldn't count on him as more than a 5th outfielder.

Starting Pitcher

Daniel Hudson (150) have you looked at this kids line last year?
14 GS 95.1 Inn 84 Ks 8 Ws 2.45 ERA 1.00 WHIP

Ricky Nolasco (168) See Rafael Furcal but a pitcher.

Jake Peavy (207) He has looked great coming back from his shoulder surgery, this was a top 20 guy for years.  Terrific buy low candidate.

Javier Vazquez (224) The move from the big city to an empty stadium should team Javier well.

Brandon Webb (224) See Jake Peavy, with less optimism.

Relief Pitching

Brandon Lyon (209) The 'Stros sent Matt Lindstrom packing making Lyon the closer by default.

Craig Kimbrel (184)  A little earlier than I typically like to draft a reliever, but his talent could end up top 10 at the position.

I leave you with my personal top 10:

  1. Albert Pujols
  2. Miguel Cabrera
  3. Evan Longoria
  4. Hanley Ramirez
  5. Ryan Braun
  6. Joey Votto
  7. Troy Tulowitzki
  8. Robinson Cano
  9. Carlos Gonzalez
  10. David Wright

Superbowl commercials used to be good.

Great game. If the Lions Cards could stop getting penalties called against them and get a running game they could have done it. The 100 yard interception for a touchdown by James Harrison, for what I considered a 14 point swing, just before half time was huge. Fitzgerald was great. Big Ben handled the last drive expertly.

Now for the real reason people watch the super bowl.

The Commercials.

There were a few good ones but nothing that was just unthinkable. I think its not the the commercials have gotten worse. Its that the computer graphics have gotten so good. Plus we have been spoiled with good commercials all the time.

My favorites:

1)

2)

3)

And this commercial was the best, for its douche-baggery:

This is the bigest load of crap ever delivered by a commercial.

The real commercial should have been like this:
If it says Vizio you're probably a douche bag who shops for a TV at Costco or Sam's Club. Congratulation you will need to buy a new TV in 2 years. Because you're tired of the horrible picture or because its broken. Thank you for being the cheap bastard that wanted to have a flat screen TV. You are the definition of oxyMORON. You obviously did a great amount of research.

I know. I know. The week after Superbowl is the biggest week for TV returns ever and the week before the Superbowl is the third biggest week of the year for TV Sales (behind Week of black Friday and the week leading to Christmas) so advertising your TVs during the Superbowl is a great strategy.

I also love the Vizio advertises that they are a US company. Even though their TVs are made in the same places as everyone else. Parts in China. Assembled in Mexico. Sold to people who didn't want to do any research.

Sorry if I offended any Vizio owners. Good news for you though, you probably bought you TV at Sam's or Costco. Their return policy is probably bad for their buisness and will allow you to return it for any reason for a year. So take back the Vizio and get something good. I recommend Samsung, Sony, LG, or Panasonic.

What a great sports post.

You know what really Grinds my Gears?: NFL Edition

Things I never want to hear again:

  • "A HEALTHY Donovan McNabb"
  • The commentators describing a scrambling QB by saying, "Like Eli Manning in the Super Bowl," as if Eli was the first to ever do it and they are surprised to see it happen again.
  • Any phrase involving "Bret Favre"... I'm tired of his old ass. It should know better.
  • Added to my watch list is "Get your popcorn ready" this still amuses me but I wonder for how long.
  • Also I'm tired of Matt Millen or as Steven A Smith described him this morning on ESPN First Take: "A WALKING FOOTBALL ATROCITY" The only time I want to hear about Matt is when he actually is fired.
